Path Maintenance

Path Maintenance – May update

We returned to Creag Bheag this month to complete the work we started last year. The major task was to transport surfacing material from the “drop” at Tait’s Brae up to the site – no mean feat! This meant bagging the material into sacks, loading the sacks into the power barrow, “driving” the barrow up […]

Tom Baraidh – path maintenance update

We had a 20 ton “drop” of Type 1 aggregate delivered to Tom Baraidh and the team have been hard at work improving the paths that surround Harry Grant’s Bench that overlooks the golf course. This section rarely gets the sun and generally suffers from very muddy ground – resulting in paths getting wider and

New bench located on the Creag Bheag path

On Friday we located a new (well, a refurbished one really…) bench at the junction of the Creag Bheag, Golf Course Circular and Newtonmore paths. Many thanks to everyone who manhandled the bench from the top of the golf course to its new location. Many hands made light work! Credits are due to: Gilmour Strang

Tom Baraidh woods path maintenance

Great progress yesterday on the Tom Baraidh paths with new surfacing added to the foundations created over the previous two weeks. The eagle eyed of you may have spotted that the gate to the Raitts path has been removed. This is to allow access to hardcore material used for the path foundations. In future week’s

Today the sun shone and the path maintenance working party resumed work for the first time this year – properly socially distanced of course. Creag Bheag path update

Another great effort by the path maintenance volunteers today. The lower half of this section of the path is 99% complete with the upper half only needing the surfacing material added. Maybe complete by Christmas?

New seat on Creag Bheag path

Bob Kinnaird has been hard at work for the past weeks creating a fantastic new “dry stone” seat on the path up to Creag Bheag. The new seat is gloriously positioned to make the best of the views and even comes with a table to accommodate your favourite snacks and refreshments. Well done Bob!

Creag Bheag path at Taits Brae

Early progress today on the new path from Taits Brae leading up to Creag Bheag. This new route avoids the existing track which is currently more of a drain than a track. Initially the existing surface vegetation layer is removed and replaced with a layer of “Type 1” aggregate. This is compressed with a “wacker
